Lithium Ion Battery

Lithium ion batteries have high energy densities, low self discharge and a high count of charge and discharge cycles without memory effect.

Current developments show that lithium ion batterys are comparable to fuels with low energy densities like methanol or liquid hydrogen. Electric cars with similar properties like conventional or hybrid cars seem possible.

Lithium as raw material is much better available as lead thich is used in conventional batteries. There are no principal limits to use lithium batteries for energy storage in cars, perhaps in the grid. The only limitation is the moderately high cost of these batteries.

The use of nanostructured membranes and nano particles for electolytes combines high energy densities with high power densities and prolonged lifetimes.
